After the repair, there is always a lot of useful things that many for some reason tend to throw away as soon as possible. Often, these include extra tubes with silicone sealant. It turns out that this tool can be suitable not only for processing seams in the bathroom.
Sealant in creativity
Hand made lovers have long discovered this plastic material. Craftsmen make from it everything that your heart desires: various prints as elements of room decor and even dolls! The sealant is chemically safe, therefore, there will be no harm from interacting with such a toy for children. And the products are very interesting and, most importantly, mobile.
You can use such material for sculpting by hand, and for casting followed by solidification in special curly forms.
IMPORTANT! The main point to remember when working with it is stickiness. So that when molding the sealant does not pester, you must use petroleum jelly or glycerin.
Shoe repair
If there is no shoe glue nearby, you can use a small amount of silicone. It will adhere all the same flawlessly, and the filling layer will also be water-repellent. Terms of use remain the same as for glue:
- clean and degrease surfaces;
- apply a small amount of funds (as an option - with a syringe);
- firmly press the glued surfaces together.
The excess sealant mass can immediately be wiped with a cloth or cut off with a knife after drying.
Repair and sealing joints in a wooden house
The principle of using sealant as such is identical to operations in an ordinary apartment. This procedure is particularly important for a wooden house, due to the properties of the material to fill the empty surface, while providing thermal and moisture insulation.
The junction of the logs may have a gap, which will increase over time, which means to let in cold and damp. By using acrylic formulations such effects can be avoided.
Water repellent coating
When applying silicone in a thin layer to any surfacewith which it is able to interact (metal, plastic, wood, etc.), transparent water-repellent film is formed. This operation helps to prevent aging of the material, the appearance of rust, mold and other unpleasant moments. For example, some motorists with this purpose immediately after painting additionally coat their cars with sealant.
REFERENCE: It takes literally several hours to completely dry the composition. But the thicker the layer, the longer it will take.
What about a cardboard aquarium?
At one of the exhibitions of waterproofing materials in the Kaliningrad region, a unique example of the use of silicone mass was demonstrated. With its help, we managed to create a real aquarium from an ordinary cardboard packaging box. The highlight was also the fact that during the show it even swam a goldfish.
Obviously, there are a great many ways to use conventional building sealant. And given that they are also presented in different colors on store shelves, it is rather difficult to foresee a possible flight of fancy.
