At the same time, the connection to the wireless connection is usually an automatic process that does not require complicated actions, the only thing is to enter the password to connect to the router and then only once, since later the OS will remember it and re-introduction will not be required. But in some cases, there are difficulties with connecting to Wi-Fi, and many users do not know what to do or how to connect Wi-Fi.

Turning on Wi-Fi on a laptop: ways

As a rule, to connect to Wi-Fi you need to perform several simple steps. What specifically will depend on the model and manufacturer of the device.

Enable with slider or button

On most modern devices to activate wireless communication you need to use the "slider" or a special button to connect to Wi-Fi. Typically, this switch is located on the front of the case.

Reference! The switch may look different, but it has one main task - connecting to a wireless connection. To turn on WiFi, you just need to move the slider to "On" mode.

The inclusion of a combination of buttons

If there are no sliders or special keys for connecting to WiFi on the device, you need to carefully look at the keys on the keyboard, so you can find the WiFi symbol on one of the F function buttons. The button may be on different keys, it will depend on the manufacturer and model of the gadget.

To turn on the wireless connection, press the "Fn + WiFi button" button combination.

Combinations of buttons that are most often installed in laptops of various manufacturers:

  1. Asus. Simultaneously pressing Fn + F2.
  2. The combination of buttons Fn + F3.
  3. Linovo. Required Fn + F5 keys.
  4. In this case, pinch Fn + F12.
  5. A combination of Fn + F2 or Fn + F12 can be used.
  6. Samsung. Or Fn + F9, or Fn + F12.

Through Windows settings

If the above manipulations could not help, then you need to determine whether the wireless connection is in the settings of the operating system. What you need to go to the "Network Management". Then click "Change adapter".

After that, a new window with "Network Connections" should appear on the screen. Then you need to find a wireless connection, click on it with the right mouse button and click "Enable" (if the "Enable" button is not active, this means that the Wi-Fi connection is active).

Using the Device Manager

If the Wi-Fi module is not active, you need to determine whether it is in the Task Manager. What you need to click "Start", click the right mouse button "Computer" and find the item "Management". On the left in the menu is the "Task Manager".

You can also press the combination of the Win + R buttons, where in the command line you need to type mmc.devmgmt.msc and click on Enter. The “Device Manager” menu appears, then look for “Network adapters”.

Reference! If the adapter icon is marked with a down arrow, it means that the module is disabled, in order to activate it, you must right-click on it, then click "Activate".

What to do if Wi-Fi does not turn on

If the hardware wireless network is connected to the laptop, and the Wireless icon is missing, or everything is there, but there is nothing in the place where all available Wi-Fi connections are required, or something strange happens with a Wi-Fi connection. then most likely there was a problem with the drivers.

You need to open the "Device Manager" and look at the status of the drivers for the Wi-Fi router:

  1. Click on any empty space on the bottom of the taskbar with the right mouse button, and in the window that appears, click "Options."
  2. After click the "Devices" menu.
  3. In the new window below we find the "Device Manager".
  4. Then in the appeared window we open the menu "Network adapters", the Wi-Fi driver of the module must be displayed here, as a rule, the designation is "Wireless".

First you need to pay attention to the label near the name of the wireless device, if there are any signs on it, for example, “Exclamation mark” or “Circle with a dot”. This means that the operating system sees the driver, but it does not work correctly. To fix the problem you need to update or rearrange the driver.

Also, if there is no driver in the "Network adapters" menu, where the word "Wireless" is located, this means that the driver for wireless communication is not installed. If there is no software, the “Unknown Device” will be written in the “Device Manager”.

To fix this problem, you also need to reinstall the drivers. If the message "Unknown device" is missing and there is no driver where the word "Wireless" is located. This means that the Wi-Fi module is turned off or broken.
