AV input on the TV - what is it?

Modern TVs have a wide range of features. Some of them may seem archaic and unnecessary in combination with the latest technology. This opinion may arise when looking at the rear or side panel of a brand-new TV, where HDMI and AV inputs are located in the neighborhood. On older TV equipment, the analog jacks may be located on the front under the monitor.

Purpose of the standard RCA connector

Given the rapid growth of digital technology, many believe that no one needs AV inputs and outputs on a TV. This technology among most users is considered hopelessly outdated and unnecessary. But the first impression is often misleading. After all, the AV input is designed to play an analog signal from video equipment through the RCA connector to the TV monitor. If you have a recording device, it is possible to take advantage of the reverse stream through the AV output and record TV broadcasts from the TV to the storage device through the connection via a special coaxial cord that connects to the same RCA connector.

To understand the importance of AV input you need to know:

  1. Principles of transmitting digital or analog signals.
  2. Technical characteristics of equipment reproducing video and audio signals.
  3. The quality of recording on information media, and what playback standards they support.
  4. What is the best way to connect the equipment.

Dealing with all of the above items can be much easier - just pay attention to the connector on the transmitting devices. If the equipment is designed for analog playback, then you do not need to invent anything. Connect it to the TV through the AV input. All the same, digital playback quality cannot be achieved using outdated media and equipment.

Positive aspects of the analog signal

Due to the fact that so far the majority of media files have not been converted to digital quality, they do not need to be played, expensive equipment with support for HDTV, FULL HD image quality standards. There is enough equipment capable of transmitting an analog signal with a high-quality picture and stereo sound to a TV. To do this, you need to connect video equipment using a wire that combines two cables for video and audio signals. Due to this connection method, this input interface is called composite.

A simple and important way to connect

When using the AV input / output, the video signal is transmitted through a separate channel, through a yellow contact, and for stereo playback, the audio cable is divided into two parts - this is the left and right channel of sound transmission. They are connected using white and red plugs. For playback, the composite wire is connected to the TV through the jacks of the corresponding color in the RCA connector. You can conclude for yourself when buying a TV about the importance and relevance of having a composite connection functionality on the TV, against the background of the fact that most media files are available for playback from recording, playing devices, using an analog signal.
