DIY coffee grinder

Coffee is the most delicious and aromatic invigorating drink. Fans in most cases prefer ground coffee brewed in a Turk - thus, you can feel all the splendor of the taste of this drink. But to grind the grains, you need a coffee grinder. In this article we will look at how to assemble this device yourself.

The device and principle of operation of the coffee grinder

The coffee grinder is designed to grind coffee beans into powder. Consider the principle of its work:

  • grains are poured into the top of the grinder;
  • the millstones located inside grind the grains to the desired size with the handle, which is located outside and with the help of a hand movement causes the millstones to move;
  • ground coffee falls into a specially built container for collection and is ready to be prepared.

IMPORTANT! The best choice would be a coffee grinder with a handle located on top.

DIY coffee grinder

We offer two do-it-yourself assembly options for this device: manual and mechanical.

Manual grinder assembly

For the manufacture of the following materials must be prepared:

  • thick cardboard;
  • a sheet of plywood or chipboard;
  • gun with silicone glue;
  • knife;
  • handles from furniture drawers;
  • small spatula;
  • wine corks;
  • a small glass of sour cream;
  • stainless steel cap;
  • coffee beans;
  • acrylic paint.

To make a stand for a home-made coffee grinder, we will prepare a sheet of wood chipboard or plywood measuring 14 cm by 14 cm and four sheets of 13 cm by 13 cm in size from cardboard. Then we glue three cardboard sheets together and take measurements of the shelf, which is installed at a distance of 4 cm from the bottom of the structure. Glue the last sheet of cardboard of a square shape and cut a hole for the box above the shelf. We cut out and assemble the box according to the appropriate dimensions of its parts so that it fits into the prepared hole, then we attach the handle to it. We glue a square from a chipboard and a square plank on top in the form of a stand for the unit itself.

For the manufacture of the device for grinding grains, take: a glass of sour cream, an ice cream stick, a furniture handle, a cork from a bottle, a board in the shape of a circle with a diameter of 2 cm and a cardboard circle.

We glue a stainless lid to the stand, fix the cup on top, and already on top of it we install two circles of different diameters, the first of cardboard to cover the entire surface of the cup, the other from the board. We fix the furniture handle to the stick, and then to the plank. Glue the cork to the other end of the stick for convenience.

For decoration, we paint our device with acrylic paint, the color that you like, let it dry and glue the grains or other decorative elements. This device, made by yourself, will be an excellent decor for the kitchen.

How to assemble a mechanical coffee grinder

To make a mechanical device, you will need the following tools:

  • Electrical engine;
  • tin sheet of medium thickness;
  • drilling machine;
  • sanding machine;
  • sandpaper;
  • metal processing tool;
  • vise;
  • file;
  • bolts;
  • wood bars and dostochka.

Having prepared all the materials, we begin to assemble our device:

  1. We take an unnecessary electric motor whose power is from 300 W to 700 W and disconnect its parts. Disconnect the rotor from the stator.
  2. Using a drilling machine inside the rotor, we make holes d = 10 cm and a depth of 0.7 cm, at a distance of 1.5 cm from each other. We place the holes along the length of its rod from top to bottom, along lines that are inclined.
  3. We connect the prepared holes with grooves, 0.4 cm wide, 0.5 cm deep. The grooves are well fixed in a vice and made into a angle grinder. Very carefully process the grooves that are located at the bottom of the rotor.
  4. Using sandpaper, chamfer the top of the rotor so that the height becomes about 1.5 cm and the depth 0.8 cm.
  5. We insert the rotor into the stator and make small holes for grains in its covers.
  6. We will make a loading container from a sheet of tin, the dimensions of which will depend on the size of the engine.
  7. On the motor shaft, on top we attach a handle that will give the rotor a rotation motion. We fix the handle in the rotor with a bolt.
  8. The resulting device is screwed to the board, inside which you first need to make a hole - ground coffee will come out through it. Under the coffee grinder we set a small container where the final product will pour out.
  9. When this device is ready, you need to make several revolutions in one direction and the other.

The mechanical coffee grinder is ready.
