How to remove the hob from the countertop

A previously installed hob is removed in several cases when, after prolonged use and use, there comes a time when it is necessary to replace a new one instead of the installed old model or which cannot be repaired. If it needs to be repaired due to improper operation, then, in order to get to the inside and repair or replace faulty elements, the tabletop is also dismantled.

What do you need

For dismantling from the countertop, the following list of tools will be required:

1. Phillips screwdriver, several sizes;
2. straight screwdriver, several sizes;
3. pliers;
4. round pliers;
5. side cutters;
6. a set of ring spanners, always with a size of 8x10;
7. set of open-end wrenches, always with a size of 8x10;
8. gas key;
9. torch;
10. insulating tape.

Disabling Communications

When performing dismantling, a number of measures must be performed.

Before starting all work, it is necessary to disconnect from all types of gas or power supply, depending on the type.

Further, based on the type:

• For gas hob - turn off the gas equipment, including the shut-off valve or gas supply taps at the entrance to the house.
• For electric hob - disconnect the device itself from electricity, in the next order, first turn off the circuit breaker in the room’s electrical panel, then, when dismantling, the power connector.

Particular attention is drawn to the fact that all gas and electrical work must be performed by qualified specialists.

Mechanical dismantling

After disconnecting from all types of communication connections, we proceed to get the device:

1. First of all, inspect the outer working surface for the absence of foreign objects;
2. We find and unscrew the fixing center screws that hold the entire structure;
3. After that, we do not fully unscrew the fixing screws;
4. By loosening the corner mounts, we move them away from the stops, freeing the panels of their countertops for passage;
5. After loosening these hooks, we pull out the structure. When the panel is taken out, the electric power wire is pulled out after it, disconnect it from the connector (attention only if there is no voltage supply to the device).
6. Having taken out the hob, carefully lay it on a previously prepared place. The installation site in the countertop, if necessary, is closed with a shield prepared in advance in size to prevent children and animals from getting there.
7. After repair or replacement, all activities are performed in reverse order.

Attention! Connection of communications (gas and electricity) is made only by making sure that the equipment is connected correctly and by qualified specialists.

Safety precautions

When removing the hob, be sure to comply with safety requirements. Perform all actions correctly, taking into account the manufacturer’s recommendations specified in the product passport.

Key safety measures:

• intended use only;
• it is impossible to disconnect the electrical connector from the device without taking measures and without making sure that it is disconnected from the electrical network;
• it is impossible to change the procedure for disconnecting gas equipment and to dismantle without shutting off the supply valve;
• ensure that no children or animals are nearby.

Avoid accidental falling out of the hands of the panel, in order to avoid health risks and damage.
